Life at Hovis - Meet the Engineers
Recently we worked with Hovis again to film a suite of videos that highlighted the Engineering team at their Bradford depot.
They are the backbone of their bakery sites and they could not function without them.
There was three Engineers featured in the videos we had Paul who is a FLM (Front Line Manager) Luke who was a Shift Team Leader and a third year Apprentice called Liam. All three sat down in front of the camera and gave their personal insights into what it was like to work for such and iconic brand. We decided to interview them all in the main Engineering workshop. This was a really authentic space with tools and machines that have been used to keep the machinery running at the site for years. It looked very locked very industrial and was a breath of fresh air to film in a great looking space. Each told a very different story with different experiences of working inside a Hovis bakery as an Engineer.
They talked about the vastness of the role they have and why they would recommend their respective jobs to anyone who is looking for a similar role in Engineering. They cover the shift patterns and how they are beneficial to both their personal and professional lives. There was also a very strong undercurrent as they spoke and that was teamwork. No matter what their position was they all expressed the desire to work in a collaborative environment and be part of a successful team.
Liam had a very different perspective than the others because he is a third year Apprentice at Hovis. He explains how his role integrates with the rest of the Engineering team and the ongoing help he gets. He covers how the Apprenticeship Program works and his favourite aspects of the job. He loves the adrenaline and the fast paced way they all have to work in fixing any problem that could arise at anytime throughout the day or night.
The Apprentices work very closely with the existing Engineering teams and are empowered from day one to get stuck into the work and learn on the job straight away.
After we filmed the interviews in the workshop we then captured footage of Liam, Luke, Paul and a number of other team members in action as they worked in the bakery. Liam shadows many of the existing Engineering team on a daily basis he is also able and trusted to carry out tasks including welding if that kind of work is needed whilst on site. Luke and Paul have many years experience working in this fast paced and reactive environment and were a wealth of knowledge throughout the day.
The resulting video content was used to highlight the Apprenticeship Programme that Hovis currently runs across the country and to show the positive outcomes that it brings. These types of programmes are a solid foundation for the future development of their workforce. The videos were also a lever to attract new Engineers to the business to help them grow their workforce in that area. Without Engineers the whole business could not deliver the millions of loafs of bread, and other products, that they produce on a daily basis.
The videos were released as part of a LinkedIn campaign on the Hovis company page which can be seen here
The full length versions can also be viewed on the Lucas Media Vimeo & Youtube channels.
